Shateema Kinard started her career with DOCCS in 2013 as a Key Board Specialist. She is currently the Supervisor of Volunteer Services at Sing Sing Correctional Facility. Shateema has over 15 years of experience working with vulnerable populations which include academically at-risk primary learners, retired senior volunteers and incarcerated offenders. She has an AS in Communication Studies from Borough of Manhattan Community College and is completing coursework for a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Services and Community Justice at John Jay College. She has been a member of NYSMICJ since 2019

During the 2021 Annual Symposium, DOCCS Acting Commissioner Anthony Annucci discussed programs the Department had available to incarcerated individuals in Bedford Hills Correctional Facility. He spoke about how one these positive programs was recently featured in a Fox 61 news story, about how the incarcerated women at Bedford Hills in the Puppies Behind Bars Program, had trained Labradors that were then given to police officers in Connecticut.
